Welcome to my Website

Buying and/or selling a home are two of the most important decisions that a person/couple/family will make in their lives.  I have over 23 years of experience in helping people make good decisions.  Most of my clients come from referrals from previous clients/friends that tell others that I am open, honest, knowledgable, and maybe even humorous as I assisted them in the buying or selling process.

The best advice I can give to those considering making a major move such as buying or selling a home is to interview a few real estate agents and make sure that you are comfortable with them.  I would be honored to have the opportunity to meet with you to see if I can put my experience to work for you.  Thanks for stopping by!  Rog

Professional Interests

I love real estate!  The interaction between people, working with numbers for market analysis values, showing homes, the excitement of putting together contracts, and watching people move on in life, makes this a very rewarding career.

When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, especially my 17 month old granddaughter.  Every once in a while I like to go hunting for pheasants and quail, and just doing odd jobs around the house trying to stay ahead of the one child still at home and the two dogs tearing up the yard.

For the past 23 years I have assisted with Special Olympics.  Every year I get called upon to be the starter at their regional track event and I know of no worthier cause than helping these folks out.

Personal Background

I grew up on a small farm just outside of Denton, Nebraska.  Graduated from Crete High School and went directly to the University of Nebraska - Lincoln.  I ran out of money, so I joined the Nebraska National Guard, and took a semester off of school to attend basic training and Advanced Individual Training.  I still have a terrible dislike for the state of Missouri due to my time spent at Fort Leonard Wood.  The major benefit of the Army was that they paid for 75% of my tuition and student loans back, so I finished up my degree in Business Administration-Finance in 1985.

While attending high school and most of college I worked at Ted DeHass and Sons in Denton.  It was a great experience as I received a better education there than at UNL in customer relations and how to run a business.  I got married in 1986 and have two great children as proof.  Went through a divorce after 18 plus years of marriage, so I know the pains and strains of that situation.

I started my real estate career at Woods Brothers Realty in 1988.  I was so naive I remember telling the managing broker that I was ready for a house to sell.  When I was informed that you have to get the listings yourself - I realized this was not going to be as easy as I thought.  I hit the ground running though and did quite well.  Interest rates were just under 10% at this time and people were happy with that rate after the 17-18% rates a few years earlier.  Rates today are bouncing just above and just below 4%.

I was recruited over to Home Real Estate to head up an area of top real estate agents with a personal assistant.  These were wonderful years as we had a great group of agents and the market was hopping.  I won newcomer of the year and then followed that up with Agent of the Year.

Now twenty-three plus years in to the business I am a seasoned veteran.  I am working with children of previous clients which in my opinion is the highest compliment that one can get in this business.

My son, Jonathan, married a young lady named Kourtney, and have blessed my life with a beautiful granddaughter named Claire.  She is 17 months old as I type this page up and is a true joy to have around.  This Christmas promises to be even more special since she will be old enough to actually open presents.  We'll probably have a couple for her under our tree.  I am also proud of Jon in the fact that he followed in my footsteps and enlisted with the Nebraska Army National Guard.

My daughter, Christie, just started college at SCC-Lincoln.  She is going to attend there two years and then do the academic transfer program to UNL so she can get Husker football tickets for her father.  I am very proud of her as she is working hard in school and also holds down a steady job.  She has a lot of drive in her that I hope I had a part in instilling.

I am also blessed to have both of my parents still with me.  We have them over on an almost weekly basis for a grill out.  Grilling is another one of my passions as a foot of snow on my deck will not prevent me from firing it up.

I live life much in the way that has been described by others.  I don't want to be carried to the grave - I want to come sliding in to the hole with a glass of wine in one hand and a box of chocolates in the other saying, "man, what a ride".

Top Provider List

I used to write a quarterly newsletter that was fairly well received.  One of the most popular (at least in calling me to ask who I did recommend), was the one where I mentioned vendors that I have had great experiences with and would recommend onto others.  I am open to other suggestions, but I will gradually rebuild this list up;

My favorite place for:

Dining out:  Lazlo's South

Carpet and Tile:  Fisher-Moser Flooring, Dan Moser - 402-525-8192

Appliances:  Schaefer's, 402-464-8277, Ask for Doug or Bryan and mention my name for my contractor discount.

Automobile Mechanics:  Norm's Car Car, 402-483-2418, ask for Steve Griess

Automobile Body Work:  Tracys South, 402-441-4800, ask for Dale

Orthodontics:  Cousin Dr. Paula Harre, 402-489-8841, might not want to mention my name here as I have terrorized the staff with numerous prank phone calls.

Community Involvement

For the past 23 years I have been involved with The Special Olympics.  I absolutely love working with those kids.  Somewhere along the line (about 15 years ago) someone within the organization realized how much passion I had for their events and named me the starter for their annual track competition.  I shake hands with every competitor and chat them up a bit.  Then I get to shoot a gun and watch them run.  My daughter has joined me most of the past few years as she enjoys interacting with these athletes as well.

While my children attended St. Joseph's Catholic School I was very involved in volunteer work and my then wife served at President of the Home-School Association.  Lots of work, but again for a very worth wile cause.

One of the best things that the Realtors Association of Lincoln does is participate in the Paint-A-Thon for Habitat for Humanity.  I have been on that work crew for many years and love to see the smiling faces of the homeowners once we have completed the improvements for them.
