Old Market

Looking for an alternative to suburban life?  The Old Market is back...with new flare for all.  Five and 10 years ago I could have not written this article.  "The Market" was run down and development was slow.  Few businesses thrived and "downtown" Omaha did not provide any craved-venues for visitors or its own residents.  Then things began to change...and the domino effect took off.

The Qwest Center was erected, attracting main-stage performers, concerts, and sporting events.  Con Agra set up its headquarters on multiple acres of land, which in turn brought hundreds of employees.  Old buildings were restored to give people "city" life with multiple condo developments.  Most recently is the new home to the College World Series: TD Ameritrade Park.  Thousands of people from across the country came together this year to enjoy the new stadium and the atmosphere...and did so with smiles on their face.

With the growing commercial and residential population, the Old Market is continuing to expand; even large enough that there is now a "No-Do" (Northern Downtown).  During spring, summer, and fall, there are a magnitude of activities to partake in.  Even winter and the Christmas displays make it enjoyable in the cold.  Anything from a variety of restaurants, sports and wine bars, boutiques, and art and antique stores.  The farmer's market runs strong from May thru October, and various events take place in all months satisfying people of all ages.  Being in walking distance really is a convenience.  The old buildings, cobblestone roads, and horse and carriage rides really add character to the area.  Though the size and options are low compared to Chicago or New York, Nebraska living in the Old Market is becoming more attractive on a daily basis.  Condominiums will range in style and price, from 100k into the millions.  There are options for young and old, and I believe they will continue to grow.
