Today is June 20th 2012, The First Day of Summer!!! It has been a very warm couple of months already! We are supposed to get some rain and thunderstorms today. With that the temperature should drop into the 80's (instead of the 90s and even 100s that we have experienced the last couple of days)!
There is a lot going on right now around the City of Omaha! The 2012 Men's College World Series is in full swing. On June 25th we will welcome the US Olympic Swim Trials. If you are visiting our great city, we welcome you and hope you are enjoying your time here.
There are many other things to do in Omaha, NE this summer! The Henry Doorly Zoo, just ranked #1 Zoo in America, is open from 9am-5pm everyday until October 31st. Like I said, the US Olympic Swim Trials start Monday, June 25th. There are 2 sessions a day (10am and 6:45pm) until July 1st and one night session on July 2nd. If you like the arts and being outside, Jazz on the Green starts July 12th. It will run every Thursday starting at 7:00 until August 16th. Village Pointe, Shadow Lake Towne Center, and Stinson Park in Aksarban Village also offer free outdoor music concerts on weekend nights. Check out their websites for complete schedules. Shakespeare on the Green will starts June 21st and run until July 8th in Elmwood park. Omaha also offers 4 different farmers markets. Check out the vendors, dates, and locations at Omaha Farmers Market.org.
If you need indoor activities on those rainy or overly hot days, The Children's Museum offers a days full of fun for kids. The Durham Museum also offers activities for all age groups. On a rainy day, one of my favorite activities is Defy Gravity with my nieces and nephews. They feature a large jump trampoline, a dodgeball area, and a Lazermaze. Trust me, after an hour or so, the kids are ready for a nap!
Just outside of Omaha in Ashland Nebraska is Mahoney State Park. This state park offers many hiking trails, a water park, horse back rides, fishing lakes, and camp grounds. Across the interstate is the Nebraska Lee G. Simmons Conservation Park and Wildlife Safari.
These are just a few highlights of Omaha events and attractions. To see a more complete list visit, Visitomaha.com or for events across the state, visit Attractions in Nebraska or the Nebraska Game and Parks website. Omaha is a very active city. There is something to entertain everyone of every age! Welcome to our great City!!!
